Step Up was launched in September 2014, and is funded by the nonprofit organisation SHINE. Its aim has always been to help students settle in to a secondary school environment, whilst also helping them raise their attainment and grades in literacy and numeracy.
Step Up takes place on a Saturday morning, and our relaxed learning environment is incredibly beneficial to students, especially those who do not thrive in everyday school lessons. Breakfast is provided in the morning to pupils, and throughout the day, they will engage in literacy, numeracy and creativity sessions . These sessions are tailored to students learning needs, and vital skills are embedded in incredible fun activities.
We also run three trips per year over the course of Step Up - past trips have included The Crystal, The Canal Museum, The Cartoon Museum - and of course our annual residential trip to an activity centre in Wales!
