Click here to see a Step Up video, about our Heroes teaching sessions!
What is a Hero? - Our Heroes are a team of older, dedicated secondary school and sixth form students from ages 15-18. They give up their free time on a Saturday (as well as some week nights to plan exciting things!) so that they can help make a difference and encourage and support the younger pupils. Our Heroes can be recognised by their purple Step Up tops - they're in every Step Up session to support the pupils and make sure they're having a great time.
My name is Ricia, although it may as well be “maths and science” considering the amount of time I spend on studying them at A Level! I’m in year 12, and I joined Step Up because who can say no to having an actual impact on a young person’s education? After all, as clichés suggest, children are our future. Hi – my name is Rebecca and I’m currently in year 11, studying my core subjects, History, French and PE. I joined Step Up because I wanted to help the year sevens get better grades for the future in English and Maths. In Step Up, I work with a group of children and help them when they need support. Hi! I’m Georgia and I’m in year 12. I’m currently studying Media, Photography, English Literature and Sociology. I joined Step Up in January 2015 as I wanted to help positively impact the lives of younger pupils in my school. My main job is to create the photos and videos – and most importantly I put together all you see on this blog, to keep parents and staff updated. Hi - my name is Jack and I'm in year 10, currently studying music. I joined Step Up last year in April and my role is to make sure all of the year sevens are safe when they are going to their next workshop, and at break. The reason I joined the programme was so I could give the year sevens a better chance to get good grades for year 11 and have fun doing so. Hi, my name is Bana and I’m a year 12 who is currently studying Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Sociology. I decided to join Step Up and become a hero because I want to be able to work with the year sevens and positively change their attitudes when they come across situations that they may find challenging. I enjoy working with younger children, and believe that it helps me improve my patience and initiative. Hello, my name is Esther and I’m in year 12 currently studying English, Business and Public Services. I joined step up and became a hero in 2015 with the enthusiasm to help modify the lives of the year 7’s. Step Up is an amazing opportunity to transform the year 7’s education. ‘‘If I can make one person believe in themselves and become someone successful, then it’s a job worth doing’’-Esther Hi, I'm Natasha. I am in year 11 at OASP. Currently I am studying for my GCSEs, which include History, French and Sociology. I became a Step Up Hero in September 2015; after seeing all the incredible outcomes of the first year of the programme, I wanted to be part of the unbelievable work put into changing the year 7's lives at high school. The programme has also inspired me to do more work as a hero such as working at HARmony camp. |
