This week at Step Up, it was our pirate week!! Shiver Me Timbers, this week we experienced hands on, on how to be the biggest, baddest pirates of the seven seas. In literacy - with the help of Jimmidy-billy-bob the monkey we spent the session creating our own pirates! All the students thought of marvelous names for their pirates and used alliterations to describe what they looked like and the crazy crimes they committed. A big shout out to Gabriel for his incredible rap and Sabiatou for all of her wonderful imagination. In numeracy - leading pirates Akaash and Eleanor taught the students some counting skills as valuable as the medallions in the complex questions. Everyone made a great effort working out how many pirates were at sea and how much gold was left. Thank you to the heroes who stepped up to perform a fantastic session for the first time! In creativity - Miss Smith-Henry tested the young pirates' agility and speed in some outdoors sports activities. Students raced up and down in creative challenges involving tennis and basketball, competing for tokens after the final knowledge quizzes. Despite the heat, all of the students got very competitive and demonstrated some brilliant teamwork skills. And, during break time, we put our pirate combat skills to the test in some boxing lessons! A lot of students got very involved in learning how to defend from evil pirates in hand-to-hand combat. Chloe and Mr Wynter were great instructors! We can't wait to see you all next week for our suspenseful murder mystery... Who will solve the crime?

What a great start ! A brand new year and a brand new set of young people. This week at Step Up we have been exploring with Superheroes such as Catwoman, Captain America and Elastagirl !! They have been getting creative making their own superheroes We have our amazing, Fantastic Flower Butterfly Girl! by the very talented Adenike. In our numeracy sessions we did some superhero Sudoku, which was very challenging even for the most powerful of superheroes, but they worked together to crack the code! In our literacy session, our young superhero's had to show off their skills striking their best superhero pose. After this they got to describe the qualities of their own superhero and came up with some very interesting ideas such as invisibility and being able to fly! As well as our amazing sessions this week, we also had some great activities at break time, they had the chance to play football and netball with some of our very talented heroes, lets just say it got very competitive! Overall we had an amazing start to our new Step Up year and were very excited to see everyone next week at Pirate week!! |
